Rufus Judson Davis photographs, 1910-1923.

The Rufus Judson Davis Photographs consist of 67 images of the Southeast Alaskan fishing industry and of fish processing facilities in Ketchikan, Alaska. Included are images of salmon traps, fishing vessels, and construction of a salmon refrigeration plant at the New England Fish Company's Ketchikan cannery. Also found in the collection are negatives for the photographs and photocopies of Rufus Davis's obituaries.

Rufus Judson Davis (1861-1923) was born in Salem, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois and in 1885 moved to the state of Washington, where he worked in the banking business until 1900. From 1900 to 1919 Davis was vice president of the Pacific Cold Storage Company, and from 1919 until his death, he worked as superintendent of the New England Fish Company, Vancouver branch. Davis died suddenly of pneumonia in Ketchikan, Alaska, on 16 December 1923. From the descriptio...
